It's hard to believe that it has been two months since our "Big Day"!
Kevin and I were married in Carmel Valley, California, on April 19th, at a small ceremony that was just about perfect. Blessed with the best weather of the season in a lovely, rustic setting, three days of catching up with our out-of-town families and oldest friends, and the profound experience of exchanging our vows, we came away with hearts full and memories worth savoring for a lifetime.
On the other hand, we're also grateful that it's done! After spending a full year preparing for it, and the past two months wrapping it up, Kevin and I agreed this past weekend (while attending a cousin's marriage ceremony) that we'll be content to simply be guests at other people's weddings from here on out! ;-)
As the fairy dust settles, we find ourselves wondering: What now? Kind of like kids on the day after Christmas, we're feeling fully gifted, grateful, and just a little bit disoriented! There are no huge deadlines on the horizon. Our house is no longer merely a staging ground for decorations! There is a sudden sense of space...
So, WHAT NOW?
Perhaps this is the perfect time to return to the basics: Eating, sleeping, cleaning, letting go of extras. Reading, writing, stretching, singing. Staying local. Staying mindful. Talking. Listening.
It is, after all, just the beginning. Perhaps we'll get to bask for a few days, weeks, or even months in this state of relative simplicity. And we'd better enjoy it while it's here, knowing that life will eventually deliver the next big thing to our doorstep, and we'll enter the swirl and rush of plans and projects once more.
But for today, it's mostly quiet. And that's actually pretty nice.
